Ernie Els watched with delight in January as his legacy was passed down to a new generation of South African champions on the European Tour. Els rst witnessed Brandon Stone (22) win the SA Open at Glendower (from 21-yearold Christiaan Bezuidenhout) and a week later saw Haydn Porteous (21) victorious at the Joburg Open, ahead of Zander Lombard, 21. It was the rst time in nearly 40 years that two South Africans had won their maiden European Tour title in consecutive weeks: 1977, John Fourie (Callers of Newcastle) and Tienie Britz (German Open). Porteous and Lombard earned spots in the Open at Royal Troon in July.
