The hips take a beat­ing over years of play­ing golf, which is why I had a hip re­place­ment in 2008. Stretch­ing and ex­er­cises that strengthen the mus­cles around the pelvis are im­por­tant. If you must have surgery, don’t think your best golf is be­hind you. I al­most won the Bri­tish Open at age 59, and I’ve been able to com­pete in the Masters ev­ery year since 1975, this one be­ing my last.
