Nick Herbert, a member at Bryanston Country Club in Gauteng, has published a “different” kind of golf book. He lists 1000 golf specific moments that draw people to the game. It’s like reading a Twitter account, and it’s a book to glance at rather than read in one sitting. A few words on each reason, with a clever hashtag. An example which golfers will identify with: No 583. Hitting off AstroTurf like a king only to hit every shot fat on the course. #ILikeGrass. Or, No 659, Losing three Pro V1s in three holes or less. #WalletAttack. The 216page paperback sells for R150.

Herbert is also the inventor of a training aid called 1Puttzone, which he is about to launch on the retail market for R200 (1puttzone.com). It’s a mat you place on the practice putting green, and helps for target visualisation, plus stroke calibration in terms of backswing path and length.
