Lions make suc­cess­ful de­fence of Women’s IPT ti­tle.

or a sec­ond con­sec­u­tive year Gaut­eng have won both the Women’s In­ter­provin­cial and 72-hole Teams Cham­pi­onship, af­ter re­tain­ing their IPT crown at Umh­lali CC. Gaut­eng topped the stroke­play qual­i­fy­ing rounds for the Jean Tin­dall Tro­phy, by 10 shots from Gaut­eng North, with Border and Ekurhu­leni also get­ting into the A1 sec­tion of match­play. Border’sYolanda Duma took in­di­vid­ual hon­ours on 73.

Gaut­eng, re­tain­ing four of the six play­ers that had tri­umphed at Cen­tu­rion last year, beat EK and Border 8-1 re­spec­tively be­fore meet­ing old foes Gaut­eng North on the fi­nal day.The Daisies won 5-4, but hav­ing lost by the same mar­gin to EK the pre­vi­ous day, they needed to win 8-1 to re­gain the ti­tle on a games count.

Chiara Con­tomath­ios was in out­stand­ing form for Gaut­eng, win­ning 5½ out of six points.Woo-Ju Son had 4½ points, Sy­mone Hen­riques, Ka­jal Mistry and Eleonora Gal­letti each 4, and Ivanna Samu 3½.

Western Prov­ince were un­beaten to win Sec­tion A2, while South­ern Cape edged Free State on a games count in B1. Mpumalanga won all three games in B2.
