Lions make successful defence of Women’s IPT title.
or a second consecutive year Gauteng have won both the Women’s Interprovincial and 72-hole Teams Championship, after retaining their IPT crown at Umhlali CC. Gauteng topped the strokeplay qualifying rounds for the Jean Tindall Trophy, by 10 shots from Gauteng North, with Border and Ekurhuleni also getting into the A1 section of matchplay. Border’sYolanda Duma took individual honours on 73.
Gauteng, retaining four of the six players that had triumphed at Centurion last year, beat EK and Border 8-1 respectively before meeting old foes Gauteng North on the final day.The Daisies won 5-4, but having lost by the same margin to EK the previous day, they needed to win 8-1 to regain the title on a games count.
Chiara Contomathios was in outstanding form for Gauteng, winning 5½ out of six points.Woo-Ju Son had 4½ points, Symone Henriques, Kajal Mistry and Eleonora Galletti each 4, and Ivanna Samu 3½.
Western Province were unbeaten to win Section A2, while Southern Cape edged Free State on a games count in B1. Mpumalanga won all three games in B2.
