LODGE AT PRINCE’S GRANT

A bou­tique ho­tel golf­ing ex­pe­ri­ence awaits vis­i­tors to this KZN North Coast golf es­tate. Seven of the 15 rooms are on the up­per floor of the club­house, and of­fer stun­ning views of the course. A sim­i­lar ex­pe­ri­ence awaits golfers at Gowrie Farm in the Mid­lands, and the com­mon de­nom­i­na­tor here is Guy Smith, who de­vel­oped both.

ZIMBALI LODGE

The Zimbali golf es­tate on the KZN North Coast at Bal­lito has two lux­ury ho­tels, but the orig­i­nal Fair­mont Zimbali Lodge, ad­ja­cent to the golf club­house in the Coastal For­est and over­look­ing the course, is per­fect for golfers who wish to be pam­pered. It has a spa, and splen­did views from its in­fin­ity pool.

THE LODGE AT AT­LANTIC BEACH

This 20-room es­tab­lish­ment is in­side the At­lantic Beach golf es­tate at Melk­bosstrand on the West Coast out­side Cape Town, and has both a spa and leisure cen­tre which of­fers ten­nis, swim­ming and a gym.The Teddy Web­ber acad­emy and driv­ing range is hand­ily nearby.The course it­self has ex­cel­lent views of Ta­ble Moun­tain.

ROYAL ST AN­DREWS

With a grand-sound­ing name and sit­u­a­tion op­po­site the en­trance to Royal Port Al­fred Golf Club in the East­ern Cape, this 1920s ho­tel has 10 rooms and a spa.The orig­i­nal build­ing has been re­stored and is home to the High­lander Pub.

ERINVALE ES­TATE HO­TEL & SPA

This Cape Dutch-style ho­tel, with 57 rooms, is sit­u­ated out­side the en­trance to the Som­er­set West golf es­tate, in ru­ral sur­round­ings with land­scaped gar­dens, and has the mag­nif­i­cent Vergele­gen wine es­tate next door. Opened in 1994 on the site of an his­toric farm­stead, it has had Ir­ish own­ers, and Skel­ligs is an Ir­ish­style pub. Pop­u­lar for con­fer­ences and wed­dings, the course is ranked No 25 in Golf Di­gest’s Top 100.
