Kevin Sharp (Mod­der­fontein) cel­e­brated his first Mid-Am­a­teur vic­tory in three years when the 45-year-old claimed the Cen­tral Gaut­eng ti­tle at Kyalami CC with 69-70. He had an ea­gle two at 15 in his open­ing round. Sharp edged Ger­lou Roux (Bel­lville 72-68), who went to No 1 on the Mid-Am rank­ings ahead of Ryan Dreyer. Roux played his last 27 holes in 8-un­der, af­ter tak­ing 40 shots for his first nine of the day. Tied third on 143 were El­ton James (West­lake) and Cliff Howes (Wan­der­ers) on 143, ahead of Lo­gan Lof­st­edt (Glen­dower) and Dino de Abreu (Kemp­ton Park) on 144. Sishen’s Lud­wig Al­butt shot 72-75 at the new Heron Banks course in the Vaal Tri­an­gle to win the Free State Se­nior Open, af­ter a play­off with Rurik Go­bel (Rand­park 75-72). Gor­don Wes­sels (Wingate Park 78-72) and Derik Piek (Cen­tu­rion 73-77) tied for third ahead of Naude and Welling­ton on 151.

Greg Glee­son (Kyalami) tri­umphed in a three-way play­off to win the Gaut­eng North Se­nior Open, his sec­ond vic­tory on the cir­cuit fol­low­ing the Northern Cape Open last year. He moved to No 8 on the Se­nior rank­ings. Glee­son shot 69-75 with 11 birdies at Wood­hill, to edge Richard Bruyns (River Club 73-71) and Ger­hard Stry­dom (Waterk­loof 72-72) in sud­den-death. Jock Welling­ton (Kyalami 71-75) was fourth ahead of Fran­cois le Roux (De Zalze), Stephen John­ston (Ruim­sig) and Schalk Naude (Rand­park) on 148.
