Three new ju­nior cham­pi­ons.

Jay­den Schaper (right) com­pleted three legs of the elu­sive Ju­nior Slam in South African golf when he won the No­mads SA Boys U-19 ti­tle at Lange­baan on the West Coast.The 16-year-old Ebotse Links (Benoni) mem­ber de­feated SA Am­a­teur cham­pion Christo Lam­precht (Pin­na­cle Point) in a sud­den­death play­off af­ter they had tied on a 14-un­der­par to­tal of 274 in windy con­di­tions the fi­nal day. Schaper had 22 birdies, against the 18 birdies and two ea­gles from Lam­precht.

Schaper was 11 when he won the SA U-13 ti­tle at Nel­spruit in 2012, and 14 when he cap­tured the SA U-15 crown at Fish River Sun in 2015. He can be­come the first player to com­plete the Ju­nior Slam if he wins the SA U-17 ti­tle at Rusten­burg in July.

Lam­precht had set the early pace at Lange­baan with open­ing rounds of 66 and 69, but he was caught by Schaper with rounds of 68 and 67. Wilco Nien­aber (Bloem­fontein) was also for the 36-hole lead. A third round 66 from Schaper put him four clear, be­fore Lam­precht came back to tie him with a clos­ing 69.

Luke Mayo (Mount Edge­combe) was third on 278, ahead of Nien­aber and Gar­rick Higgo (De Zalze) on 279.Tied sixth on 280 were An­dre van Dyk (Klerks­dorp), de­fend­ing cham­pion Deon Ger­mishuys (Strand) and Ruan Groe­newald (White River).
