Northern Open & Amateur, Randpark Scores: 66-69-68-68 (271) Runner-up: Albert Venter 67-66-69-69 (271)

Amateur Final: Beat Matt Saulez 3/1 How he did it: The 20-year-old Swiss won the Northern double at Randpark (Firethorn) for the first time since Scot David Law in 2011. He was here for two months, playing in six events, and attending the KeNako Academy in George. “South Africa has unbelievably talented golfers and they are fighters. It was worth it to come out and play here. I gained more from the experience than I ever expected,” he said.

Notable: Matt Saulez (Durban CC), 20, rose to No 2 on the GD rankings with a third-place finish in the strokeplay (24 birdies and an eagle), and beat No-1 ranked Kyle McClatchie in the matchplay semifinals. Eric Wowor (Kyalami), 16, had his best ever tournament, fourth in the strokeplay, and fourth in the matchplay. Foreign players have this year won four major local titles, the SA Strokeplay going to France, and African Amateur to Scotland.
