The Webster Cup is the closest annual contest we have in South Africa to the Ryder Cup, and this year it was hosted at Highland Gate in Mpumalanga, where the 12-man Inland team of PGA club professionals overcame the Coastal team 14½-9½ over three sessions of foursomes, betterball and singles. It was a tight match until the final-day singles, which the Inland team won 9-3 to regain the trophy, named after former PGA chairman Graham Webster, who was present as tournament director. The Inland team, led by PGA chairman Paul Marks, included a mix of prominent teaching pros, club managers, golf directors and head professionals.
