GET A LIVABLE LIVING ROOM

PICK UP AFTER YOUR PET

When your vacuum doesn’t suck up what Scruffy left behind on the couch, run a wet squeegee over cushions in short, quick strokes. The rubber creates friction, while the water keeps fur from flying. (Try this on rugs too.)

EVICT DUST BUNNIES

Cleaning under the sofa and media console happens less often than most of us would like to admit, but with an extendable microfibre duster (R40, The Crazy Store) you won’t have to move furniture or crawl on your hands and knees to pick up the dust a vacuum misses.

DEFUZZ LAMPSHADES

Take a good look at your lampshades, and you might be appalled at how many tiny fibres live there. Run a lint roller around fabric shades or swipe a paintbrush across pleated styles to remove dirt quickly. Then stash the tool in a nearby sidetable or drawer for next week.

BLAST AWAY COBWEBS

Woven baskets are a pain to clean, but you already own a secret weapon: the hairdryer! Turn it on high, aim it at the tight nooks and crannies, and watch the debris blow right out. When you’re done, flip it to a cool, low setting to gently clean the leaves of house plants.
