Find the Right Formulas
Staring at the rows of shampoos and conditioners in the haircare aisle can make you feel like the Bachelorette. How do you choose the one? ‘Volumising formulas are good for fine hair and moisturising formulas are ideal on dry hair, and for dyed hair, pick a colourprotecting shampoo and conditioner,’ says Garnier celebrity stylist Tommy Buckett. (We like L’Oréal Elvive Colour Protect Protecting Shampoo, R74,95.) But if you have more than one issue you want to address, go with a sulphate-free formula. ‘It’s gentle on all hair types,’ he says. ‘If your ends tend to break or if your hair is bleached, you need a protein-infused strengthening shampoo.’ Switch between that and a moisturising shampoo without protein. ‘Too much protein can make hair brittle, so don’t use one every time you wash,’ Buckett explains.
