ONE MINUTE WITH ZURAIDA

Good Housekeeping (South Africa) - - LUXE FOR LESS -

With her boundless energy and positive outlook, this 43-year-old shares her life insights

MARRIAGE: ‘The strongest thing about my relationship with Josh is our communication. My husband is truly someone I can talk to about anything, which means he is open to listening to anything. And openness is important in any relationship.’

PARENTHOOD: ‘I find that the older I get, the more I’m trying to be the example for my kids. Instead of telling children what to do and what not to, I’m trying to lead by example.’

SOCIAL MEDIA: ‘Authenticity on social media really works for me. I am very real to my followers, especially on Instagram stories, and I think they appreciate that about me.’

AGEING: ‘I have a really young spirit. A lot of the things I loved in my 20s I still love now in my 40s. I don’t see myself as having changed that much. I often sit and think, “What does it mean to be an adult?” Yes, I’ve had a lot of growth and experiences in my life, but I still feel so young at heart and I hope it always stays that way.’

STUDYING: ‘I’ve discovered that finding balance can be quite challenging. I’m a full-time student and I still have my role as a pal, a parent and a partner. Trying to get that balance can be a challenge – and I’m trying to do that every day. I do, however, love being a full-time student. I love hanging out with people basically half my age and being part of the student culture. There are students who have impacted and supported me immensely throughout my years at university, and I cherish and appreciate that.’

CONFIDENCE: ‘Always know that you are enough and practise that by embracing and being thankful for who you are. If you compare yourself with others, you will focus more on what you are not. And by doing that, your love bank for yourself will just continue to be depleted.’
