Julie Carter is the con­tem­po­rary face of fish mon­ger­ing. Her fish­cakes are the best in the city, made from a se­lec­tion of SASSI green-list fish she sells in her small 30-some­thing-seater deli at the Wood­stock Ex­change. ‘My fa­ther grew up in Gans­baai and when his fa­ther went to study he had to start fish­ing for the fam­ily’s sup­pers at the age of six,’ says Julie, who started sell­ing the fresh daily catch at the Bis­cuit Mill six years ago.
