UPDATE: More details released on murder
GRAAFF-REINET — Some more information has been made available on the murder that occurred in College Road, Graaff-reinet, last Monday, July 10.
The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Rudolf de Wet, who moved to Graaff-reinet about a year ago.
He lived alone and worked at A van den Berg and Son Electrical Contractors.
De Wet’s body was found in the bathroom of his house, next to the bath, with his hands and feet bound with rope. It appears that he died from strangulation.
There were no signs of forced entry. It is thought that either he was outside when he was attacked, or that he had not locked his door.
The police are unaware at this stage if anything has been stolen, but confirmed that a flat screen television, which de Wet is known to have owned, was not in the house.
Robbery is suspected, but the case is still under investigation.
De Wet’s daughter and brothers travelled to Graaff-reinet for his funeral service, which was held last Friday at the Dutch Reformed Church.
