Four kil­led in hor­ri­fic ac­ci­dent

GRAAFF-REINET — A hor­ri¿c ac­ci­dent out­si­de Graaff-reinet clai­med the li­ves of four pe­op­le on Sa­tur­day mor­ning, Sep­tem­ber 23.

Po­li­ce spo­kes­per­son, W/O Ger­rie van Rooy­en re­ports that a mi­ni­bus was trans­por­ting T­hurs­day 28 Sep­tem­ber, 2017 mour­ners from the We­stern Ca­pe to a fu­ne­ral in But­ter­worth, w­hen just af­ter 06:00, it col­li­ded with a truck 34 ki­lo­me­ters out­si­de Graaff-reinet on the N9 to Mid­del­burg.

Ac­cor­ding to Van Rooy­en, three sis­ters from one fa­mi­ly died on im­pact whi­le the hus­band of one of the sis­ters al­so succum­bed to his in­ju­ries on the sce­ne.

A num­ber of ot­her pas­sen­gers sus­tai­ned less se­ri­ous in­ju­ries and re­cei­ved tre­at­ment at the Mid­lands Hos­pi­tal in Graaff-reinet.

The ci­r­cum­stan­ces which led to the ac­ci­dent is still un­cle­ar and the po­li­ce are in­ves­ti­ga­ting a ca­se of cul­pa­ble ho­mi­ci­de.

The dri­ver of the mi­ni­bus sus­tai­ned mi­nor in­ju­ries whi­le the truck dri­ver es­ca­ped wit­hout in­ju­ry. The na­mes of the de­ce­a­sed are wit­hheld pen­ding furt­her in­ves­ti­ga­ti­on.
