Lo­cal young­ster ex­cels in e­ques­tri­an field

A­BER­DEEN — Zi­le­ke de Ja­ger of A­ber­deen con­ti­nues to ex­cel in her cho­sen e­ques­tri­an field of Sadd­le Hor­se e­vents.

Af­ter a re­cent com­pe­ti­ti­on in Pa­rys, in the F­ree S­ta­te, Zi­le­ke was cho­sen for the se­ni­or Pro­tea si­de to tra­vel to the U­ni­ted S­ta­tes la­ter this y­e­ar in the 5-gai­ted e­vent.

This is a won­der­ful a­chie­vement for this 17-y­e­ar-old ma­tric stu­dent at Ho­ër Volk­skool in Graaff-rei­net.

On­ce a­gain, she has al­so e­ar­ned her ju­ni­or Pro­tea co­lours in the 3-gai­ted e­vent. This te­am will be com­pe­ting in Na­mi­bia la­ter this y­e­ar.

Zi­le­ke has on­ly been ri­ding her new hor­se, MC Vic­to­ry, for a few mont­hs­her pre­vi­ous hor­se died sud­den­ly on­ly a cou­ple of weeks af­ter she had boug­ht him.

Zi­le­ke is co­a­ched by for­mer S­pring­bok E­nid Nor­ton of Gra­ham­stown, and she tra­vels to Gra­ham­stown e­very wee­kend for trai­ning. Zi­le­ke de Ja­ger with her hor­se MC Vic­to­ry.
