Who will be the king of the courts?

The squash tour­na­ment to be held du­ring the Ka­roo-lus Fe­s­ti­val has at­trac­ted par­ti­ci­pants from as far a­field as East Lon­don, Mid­del­burg, Port E­li­za­beth and St Fran­cis Bay, as well as a strong con­tin­gent of lo­cal play­ers.

The­re are very few spa­ces left at this sta­ge, but a­nyo­ne who would li­ke to be ad­ded to the wai­ting list can con­tact Da­nie Jack­son on 082 326 0532.

This dou­bles tour­na­ment will be play­ed on a ti­me for­mat, with 20 mi­nu­tes al­lo­ca­ted for e­ach ma­tch. At the end of e­ach ma­tch, the win­ning te­am will be a­war­ded two points, with one point per te­am in the e­vent of a draw.

At the end of the tour­na­ment, the pair with the most points wins, but should the­re be a tie, then the to­tal num­ber of points sco­red in the in­di­vi­du­al ma­t­ches will be u­sed as a tie-bre­a­ker. T­hus, play­ers should aim to sco­re as ma­ny points as they can in e­ach ma­tch.

The com­pe­ti­ti­on will be play­ed in two secti­ons, de­pen­ding on the strength of the play­ers. All te­ams will play 11 ga­mes, so will get in plen­ty of squash, whi­le still al­lo­wing ti­me for play­ers to en­joy so­me of the ot­her e­vents at the fe­s­ti­val.

A te­am may con­sist of play­ers of any age, and may be mixed or sing­le­sex. E­ach te­am will play e­le­ven ma­t­ches o­ver the wee­kend, in either the A or B secti­on, which ma­kes the R450 en­try fee per play­er very good va­lue. This fee in­clu­des en­try to the fe­s­ti­val, as well as the pri­ze­gi­ving lunch on Sun­day w­he­re ma­ny lucky draw pri­zes will al­so be han­ded out.

The­re will al­so be a se­cret ja­lop­pi ma­tch to kick off the tour­na­ment, in­vol­ving wit­blitz and jel­ly ba­bies – the de­tails of this are rat­her un­cle­ar, but all will be re­vea­led in the post­ma­tch re­port!
