Who will be the king of the courts?
The squash tournament to be held during the Karoo-lus Festival has attracted participants from as far afield as East London, Middelburg, Port Elizabeth and St Francis Bay, as well as a strong contingent of local players.
There are very few spaces left at this stage, but anyone who would like to be added to the waiting list can contact Danie Jackson on 082 326 0532.
This doubles tournament will be played on a time format, with 20 minutes allocated for each match. At the end of each match, the winning team will be awarded two points, with one point per team in the event of a draw.
At the end of the tournament, the pair with the most points wins, but should there be a tie, then the total number of points scored in the individual matches will be used as a tie-breaker. Thus, players should aim to score as many points as they can in each match.
The competition will be played in two sections, depending on the strength of the players. All teams will play 11 games, so will get in plenty of squash, while still allowing time for players to enjoy some of the other events at the festival.
A team may consist of players of any age, and may be mixed or singlesex. Each team will play eleven matches over the weekend, in either the A or B section, which makes the R450 entry fee per player very good value. This fee includes entry to the festival, as well as the prizegiving lunch on Sunday where many lucky draw prizes will also be handed out.
There will also be a secret jaloppi match to kick off the tournament, involving witblitz and jelly babies – the details of this are rather unclear, but all will be revealed in the postmatch report!
