AfriForum has welcomed the decision by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Council (NMBMC) to sue stadium operators for almost R200 million for alleged misrepresentation.

The employees are the stadium’s Chief Executive Officer Michiel Adrian Oberholzer, two employees Chantal du Pisani, Nadia Gerwel and Access Facilities and Leisure Management (Pty) Ltd, the stadium’s operators.

In a statement released on Wednesday 23 November, AfriForum said it had already taken steps in October 2015 and submitted a court application to set aside the Metro Council’s decision to reappoint Access as the stadium’s operators.

“The organisation requested that an independent forensic audit be performed on the operations of the operator and that steps be taken to collect any losses.

“AfriForum met with Atholl Trollip, Mayor of Metro Council, in a bid to tackle fraud together.”
