BB Zondani Gospel Benefit Concert brings joy

Married couple Nobulumko and Vuyani Speckman organised a charity benefit concert for three impoverished families that live in Vukani, O Street and extension 10.

The concert that was held at the BB Zondani Hall in Fingo Village on Saturday 3 December saw solo performances from local artists like Unathi Nxumalo, Nontsikelelo “Ntsiki” Sishuba, Sibusiso and group performances by Still Forever and the Speckman couple serenading the audience with gospel music.

Rev Phumla Phango who hosted the event often took to the stage along with the rest of the audience to dance to the reviving music.

Nobulumko said the concert managed to raise R760 along with other donations like clothes and bed linen which they gave to the O Street family on Tuesday.

This family consists of an elderly woman, who is a pensioner but takes care of 13 grandchildren by herself.

“I must say that I was quite disappointed by the turn-out, I expected a lot more people to attend but when we handed over the money and clothes to that family, the joy that was on their faces was priceless.”

Nobulumko said that the joy that overcame those children not only consoled but reassured them that they did make a difference so she now feels satisfied about the outcome. Nobulumko and her husband had initially identified three families who are in real need of assistance.

The proceeds from the charity benefit concert were meant to help all three families but according to them, because of little assistance and resources, they had to choose the one family which is the poorest out of the three to assist.
