New record for Kar­iega Clas­sic

James Thomp­son won the Kar­iega Clas­sic moun­tain bike chal­lenge in a record time of 1 hour 58 min­utes and 49 sec­onds for the roughly 53km course. Ac­cord­ing to or­gan- iser, Hen­nie le Roux, Thomp­son beat the record by five min­utes.

Par­tic­i­pants cy­cled from the source of the Kar­iega River through a num­ber of farm­lands that lie in the ma­jesti- cally beau­ti­ful Kar­iega River Val­ley. The event fin­ished at Horns Up restau­rant and pub on the river bank.

Sec­ond home was Graeme Parker in 2:02:56, fol­lowed by Lloyd Vos, a Graeme Col­lege pupil, in 2:05:49.

The women’s win­ner was Carolyn Thomp­son who fin­ished the course in 2:27:48. She was fol­lowed by Lisa Czepk in 2:39:34 and Sheryl Hanger in 2:42:47.
