Teen’s murder accused seeks bail
A 16-year-old boy arrested with his two friends in connection with the murder of a Grahamstown girl late last year is seeking bail.
The boy, together with two 18-yearolds, was arrested after the body of a teenage girl was found in a dumping area near TEM Mrwetyana School in early December.
Wednesday 11 January was the third court appearance for the trio since their arrest last year.
Since then they have been remanded and continue to remain in custody. The juvenile, who is represented by a private attorney, is seeking bail.
The other two accused have not indicated whether they want bail or not.They will be represented by Legal Aid attorneys.
Yesterday after the 16-year-old indicated that he wanted bail, the case was postponed to Thursday 19 January
Police said preliminary investigations into the girl’s death suggested she had sustained serious head injuries and several stab wounds to her upper body.
Her body was found on Monday morning, 5 December by a woman who went to dump rubbish near TEM Mrwetyana School.
The three were swiftly arrested.
