The three men arrested for allegedly selling fraudulent Umalusi Senior Certificates have been remanded by the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court. The men in their late 30s and early 40s appeared in court on Tuesday. They were arrested on 31 December 2016, by the Hawks AntiCorruption and Crime Intelligence.

They were arrested after they sold a certificate to an undercover police officer for R3 000 at a shopping complex in Botshabelo.

“The operation was conducted after information was received that the suspects were constructing and selling Umalusi Senior Certificates,” Hawks Captain S’fiso Nyakane said this week.

Nyakane said investigations revealed that one of the men was previously sentenced to five years in prison for a similar offence.
