derful mask for Tourism staff member Hluliwe Kutsi, who ran the tuck shop at the event.
Entrepreneurs who volunteered their time and talent must also receive our heartfelt thanks: Bingo the Clown for the memorable fire show, New Nexus Inc. (Vince and Kim) for fantastic face painting; Maryann Mda Events for assisting with the event and running the games and The Candy Shop’s Newton Jordaan, who was the event designer and Master of Ceremonies.
A big thank you to the Councillor for Ward 4, Brian Fargher, for his positive speech to the 80-plus children and teenagers who joined us for a morning of community building and fun.
We plan to build on the success of this pilot event and with the wonderful people of Grahamstown who so readily give their support and dedication to community building, we can- not fail.
Bonds of Friendship Festival
Church tourism is on the rise and the public was invited to bring picnic baskets and participate in an interdenominational event at the Bible Monument on 16 December, the Day of Reconciliation. Basil and Debbie Mills brought one of their historic wagons to the site in Rautenbach Road and set up a traditional camp for the morning. An enjoyable time was spent socialising under a big tree and taking rides in the wagon.
New Year’s Cup 2016
Grahamstown hosted possibly the biggest soccer tournament in the area when 32 teams from across South Africa came to our City for the inaugural New Year’s Cup Tournament from 16-31 December. Makana Tourism was tasked with finding accommodation providers and caterers for participants and visitors to the event.
