Dagga, booze, elec­tric ca­bles in crime bust

Po­lice seized liquor worth more than R3 600 and is­sued a 61-yearold woman with a R1 500 fine in a case of deal­ing in liquor dur­ing a Back to Ba­sics Op­er­a­tion in Gra­ham­stown this week. The op­er­a­tion on Tues­day fo­cused on the il­le­gal sale of liquor, and drugs.

In the same op­er­a­tion, 29 bom­p­ies and two loose bags of dagga val­ued at nearly R500 was found aban­doned at Tran­sit Camp, as well as Eskom elec­tri­cal ca­ble val­ued at ap­prox­i­mately R1 500.

Mean­while, in Ped­die, a case of busi­ness bur­glary was opened fol­low­ing a re­port that safes at the Ped­die Post Of­fice had been ac­cessed and an undis­closed amount of cash taken.

“De­tails of the in­ci­dent are cur­rently un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion by SAPS crime scene ex­perts and spe­cial­ist in­ves­ti­ga­tors,” Goven­der said in a state­ment. “No ar­rests have been made. An ap­peal is made to any per­son with in­for­ma­tion to Con­tact their near­est po­lice sta­tion or the crime stop num­ber on 0860 010 111. All in­for­ma­tion is strictly con­fi­den­tial and the caller has a choice to re­main anony­mous.”
