This past Sunday the Rhodes women’s female basketball A and B team’s took on the University of Fort Hare at the Nelson Mandela Bay Courts in Motherwell and walked off victorious. The Rhodes A team beat Fort Hare 38-31 and Rhodes Bs beat Fort Hare 50-20.

It was an intense game, in which both the Rhodes A and B teams came together as a team, and worked together to win. The Rhodes A team were down by four goals in the 1st quarter, during the time out between the first quarter and second quarter the team made a conscious effort to pick up their heads and keep their fighting spirit alive. The A team made a comeback in the second, third and fourth quarters. The team focused on retrieving the rebound balls and converting them into goals, as well as kept their man on man defence strong throughout the game, all while paying attention to intercepting passes made by the Fort Hare team. The star players of the game were Sinoxolo Mfana and Lerato Ratshefola. Rhodes captain Lerato Ratshefola said “the team is slowly bonding and this is helping us be better players and to play better as a team.”

The Rhodes Female basketball team is training hard to improve their individual skills and team dynamics, as they compete in the Nelson Mandela Bay Basketball Association league (NMBBA) over the next few weeks.
