DSG host fierce U14 hockey
The Diosecan School for Girls (DSG) hosted the U14 Girls hockey tournament over the 11-13 August weekend. By the cold and windy Sunday morning, only four teams had survived the matches to take part in the finals of the tournament.
No local teams were among the top four to progress to the final stages of the tournament.
The four teams who had made it to this year’s finals were York High School, Paarl Hoërskool, Collegiate Girls’ High and Springfield High. York played Paarl and were fighting hard for 3rd place in Pool A.
The teams played 20 minutes a side and were allowed a maximum of eight minutes dedicated to a quick warm up session on the turf.
Collegiate walked away with several medals and the winning trophy, because of 21 goals scored and only two conceded. Springfield was second in the tournament with eight goals and three against. The tournament was a huge success and DSG organiser and head of sport, Chris Hibbert said he hopes to invite more schools to participate in the tournament next year.
