Crime and joblessness
In the article ‘Tackle joblessness, tackle crime’, on page 11 of Friday 1 September edition of Grocott’s Mail, it was stated that given the current unemployment rate of 27.7%, the overall crime rate may increase by 2.9%. However, after further communication with senior Economics lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand Professor Prudence Magejo, we found that a percentage point increase in the unemployment rate may cause 2.9% increase in overall crime.
In the article ‘Night of hell as sewage floods family home’, page 13 of Friday 1 September edition of Grocott’s Mail, is was stated that A 70-year-old woman is undergoing TB treatment. In fact, it is Ayanda, Jawa’s brother, who is undergoing TB treatment.
