Historic medals for Kingswood Museum
A recent visitor to Kingswood College was Robin GaneMcCalla from Boston, Massachusetts, who came to present his grandfather’s World War 2 medals to the College Museum.
His grandfather was Old Kingswoodian Dr Philip Gane MBE PhD FRSSA, a geophysist at the Bernard Price Institute in Johannesburg. During World War 2 he was part of the team set up by Professor Basil Schonland to develop a radar system to protect the South African coast and then the team became part of the Special Signal Services, to protect the Suez Canal and the Sinai Coast. Philip Gane was promoted to the rank of Major and was awarded the MBE for his services to the war effort.
