Project # 2 The bathroom

Home Paint It - - MAKEOVER -

This luxurious space is a tranquil haven perfect for winding down after a long day while you soak in a bubble bath.

When the couple built the house three years ago, Carina was keen to use the beautiful dresser from Interior Concepts with its marble top and double vanity in their en-suite bathroom. “We both love the drama and elaborate flourishes of the French aesthetic and have used it before,” says Carina.

The dresser comes from the supplier with an extremely rough grey or white undercoat, so it’s ideal for painting. Lisa also lent a hand with this project. “She has undertaken several painting projects for us before, so she knows my taste very well,” says Carina.

Her brief to Lisa was to create a sense of drama. Ordinary grey or white is not Carina’s style; she loves colour and the dresser had to make an impact. This was right up Lisa’s alley as she believes the more detail on a piece, the better it is suited to a weathered look. “The curves and embossed detail allowed me to play with the rich colour and touches of gold.”

Carina and Jurie adore their striking vanity dresser. “When I relax in the bath, I love looking at it!” says Carina.

In an ultra-modern home, I’d steer away from the weathered look. – Lisa

Carina purchased the bathroom vanity complete with its white marble slab and double basins and asked Lisa to transform it with a paint technique. She re-used the original handles as they complement the dramatic detail on the dresser.
