Get the ‘green’ look

Home Paint It - - ADVICE -

My en-suite shower desperately needs updating and I really fancy the ‘green’ bathroom on page 35 of your September 2013 issue. What kind of plaster and paint should I use to get this ecofriendly look?

Erwin van der Weerd replies The bathroom featured in this Greyton home really is unique with its grey walls and ‘leather look’. First of all, it’s important to note that you can’t use a regular skim for the walls in the shower because it doesn’t like water! We used cement-based plaster for the shower wall and then painted all the walls with Leather paint from Midas, including a special base coat followed by two coats of the final colour. The look is really not attractive during the process, but as soon as the natural wax from Midas is applied, it transforms into the beautiful end result. In the shower, we also applied a sealer from Midas to make it watertight. >>
