... with Casting Stone
YOU WILL NEED
• a Mouldit silicone e mould • Casting Stone pow wder • water • mixing bowl wl • wooden board or tra ay • ice-cream stick
1 Mix 2 parts Casting Stone with 1 part water to form a smooth mixture; it must be liquid but not runny. The quantities you need will depend on the size and number of moulds you want to cast.
2 Make sure the mould is clean and place it on a sturdy board or tray. Pour the prepared Casting Stone into the mould and tap it to make sure there are no trapped air bubbles. Scrape across the top with the ice-cream stick so that the surface is smooth and even (if it’s uneven, it will be difficult to affix the embellishment to a flat surface).
3 Leave until completely dry – at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight.
4 Carefully remove the hardened embellishment from the silicone mould – it is very delicate. To finish Using superglue, attach the embellishment to the surface you wish to adorn; wait until the adhesive has dried then paint as desired. Paint expert Marlene Rheeder Kruger of Inspired Interiors simply uses Painter’s Mate as ‘glue’.
