Linda and Almarie took down some walls to create a bright and breezy space with an open-plan kitchen and lounge area perfect for all the entertaining they love to do. They also improved the flow of rooms: the en-suite main bedroom was once where the kitchen is now, the new main bedroom used to be the domestic quarters and the guest room was a hairdresser’s shop!
A garage and studio were added, turning the 100m² cottage into a spacious 152m² house. Pine floors were installed throughout the home and then sealed with white and clear Woodoc 25 Water-borne Floor Sealer. “We really didn’t want the pine to become that horrid orange colour over time,” Almarie says.
Originally built only with timber, the home’s exterior has now been clad with orientated strand boards and Nutec Fibre Cement boards. “It really doesn’t feel like we’re living in a timber house, and it certainly doesn’t look like one anymore!” says Linda.
