Things they love

Home (South Africa) - - THINGS THEY LOVE -

I love to combine furniture pieces from different eras and cultures

with quirky designs, pops of colour, rich textures and sumptuous floral patterns. – Belinda

Belinda and Joe are keen outdoor enthusiasts and they love to travel. “Over the years, we’ve collected pieces of furniture, art and memorabilia from all the places we’ve visited,” says Belinda. “I know that if I love something, I’ll find a place for it. Our home has become layered with all our precious things.”

Belinda is also passionate about flowers and after many years in the advertising industry, she now runs a flower-arranging business, Bella Flowers, from home. “The world of flowers has become my creative outlet,” she says. No wonder then that their house boasts an abundance of flowers and foliage.

Colourful arrangements and potted plants bring the space to life and part of the appeal is the unusual vessels Belinda uses to display them. “For me, flowers are messengers of joy and inspiration,” she says. “Flowers express what we cannot – with grace and beauty.”

Belinda’s flair is not limited to flowers – her creative touch is visible throughout the house. Feature walls, for example, are painted with splashes of rich colour, which instantly creates interest. “I love darker colours on selected walls – I find it adds definition and makes things pop. I also love using black in décor; it’s grounding and adds integrity.” >>
