Thanks for the information on spekboom in ‘Plant of the month’. According to my late father, spekboom also deters ants and termites, and bees love the flowers and produce good honey from it.

People have been planting spekboom as hedges for ages – the first stock farmers used it to make kraal fences. I hope this miracle plant will be utilised by everyone wishing for a greener environment; spekboom has exceptional carbon-storing capabilities for turning back the tide of global warming.

So buy a spekboom or just break off a piece and plant it in a pot. Yes, we can make a positive difference to climate change through such a small intervention.
