Thanks for the in­for­ma­tion on spekboom in ‘Plant of the month’. Ac­cord­ing to my late fa­ther, spekboom also de­ters ants and ter­mites, and bees love the flow­ers and pro­duce good honey from it.

Peo­ple have been plant­ing spekboom as hedges for ages – the first stock farm­ers used it to make kraal fences. I hope this mir­a­cle plant will be utilised by ev­ery­one wish­ing for a greener en­vi­ron­ment; spekboom has ex­cep­tional car­bon-stor­ing ca­pa­bil­i­ties for turn­ing back the tide of global warm­ing.

So buy a spekboom or just break off a piece and plant it in a pot. Yes, we can make a pos­i­tive dif­fer­ence to cli­mate change through such a small in­ter­ven­tion. Thanks to DIY Deon for all his bril­liant projects!
