Q&A with Karen

Home (South Africa) - - RENOVATION - THE MECHANICS

much as possible yourself. Do as

I’m addicted to Home and Pinterest, and because we’re so attuned to renovating, we’re always on the lookout for new ideas.

What do you enjoy most about your completed project?

I love that we can toss some clothes and food into the van and hit the road on the spur of the moment!

We’re not planning to buy another caravan anytime soon because we are currently setting up six self-catering units in town. The new checkerboard vinyl flooring (left) was the perfect choice for the 1950/60s ‘diner’ aesthetic the couple were after. To create a softer base for the vinyl flooring and to reduce the road noise, Steph first covered the entire floor surface with foam puzzle pieces similar to those that kids enjoy. Steph made the built-in bed and created storage space underneath; the van is also fitted with a wardrobe.

What is your top cost-cutting tip? Where did you get your ideas? What’s next?
