Thank you so much for your potato latkes recipe in the June is­sue. With Ra­madan upon us (the month when Mus­lims fast from just be­fore sun­rise to sun­set), I’m al­ways look­ing for some­thing dif­fer­ent to try.

It’s tra­di­tion to break one’s fast with dates and wa­ter fol­lowed by savoury snacks and soup. And when I saw the latkes recipe, I knew they’d be per­fect! They were a hit. I just added a lit­tle grated cheese and served them with a sour cream, chives and jalapeño dip.

There’s hope for South Africa when a tra­di­tional dish served for Hanukkah can be served (with a lit­tle tweak) dur­ing the month of Ra­madan to break our fast with friends and fam­ily. Thank you for a won­der­fully prac­ti­cal mag­a­zine that speaks to us all. I think that re­gard­less of race, cul­ture or re­li­gion, we can all find in­spi­ra­tion in Home.
