Bake for your buddy
Layla Toomey of Cape Town writes I loved the peanut butter and coconut oil doggy recipe you featured in the October 2017 issue! Do you have others?
Ilze Fourie of Rogue’s Pawsome Bakery replies My dogs also love those biscuits. The following recipe includes coconut oil but this time it’s combined with rooibos – they work really well together!
• 500g wholewheat flour
• 1 egg
• 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (dissolved in a little warm water)
• 2 rooibos teabags (brewed in 200ml hot water)
1 Mix the wholewheat flour, egg and coconut oil.
2 Slowly add the rooibos tea to the dough; the dough must have a firm consistency to ensure that you can roll it out.
3 Roll the dough out until it’s about 0.5cm thick on a surface covered in flour. Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into shapes.
4 Bake for about 20 minutes at 180°C; if the treats aren’t dry enough, bake for another 30 minutes at 100°C.
Remember There are no preservatives in the biscuits, so it’s best to store them in the fridge or freezer.
