House and Leisure Before and After - - CONTRIBUTORS -

is House and Leisure’s Cape Town-based Managing Editor, who conceptualised much of this special issue. If you could change anything in your home, what would it be? I’d change the flooring. I’m in a rental house so I’m stuck with ugly 1980s tiled floors. With walls and furniture it’s easy to express your own style, but floors are structural and not so easy. Given half an opportunity, I would change to wooden floors. A new start is… a little house in the Karoo. Annual weekend getaway spot? Prince Albert. Who/what inspires you? Pinterest! As a self-confessed DIY junkie, I have been a loyal pinner for some time. And the smell of wood when I walk into Lumbercity. What’s your favourite room in your home? My project room, always with a couple of projects on the go. I’m forever in need of more tools, storage and organising. What is your go-to store when starting a DIY project? My local, privately owned hardware store. The staff are always friendly and forthcoming with advice, but more than the DIY store I cannot resist a great junk shop or something like the Ross Demolition Secondhand Yard in Lansdowne. If you could swap jobs for a month, what would you do? I would love to work with a carpenter, working with wood, making furniture, using proper tools, learning techniques, building things, creating stuff...
