Bogus cops swindle a pensioner
The Knysna police would like to warn the public about bogus police officers who are operating in Knysna after a 63-year-old victim was apparently swindled out of her pension money by three men who claimed to be members of the South African Police Service on Saturday, July 1 at 12:30.
It is alleged that the victim was in the central business district near Grey Street, Knysna when she witnessed a man picking up some cash.
The man requested the victim to accompany her to a place where they would share the money. Another man appeared and introduced himself as a police officer.
He informed them that they were under arrest and must hand over her cash as well as groceries to another man.
All the men then disappeared with the money and groceries.
A case of theft was opened and this matter is currently being investigated by the Knysna Detective Branch. Anyone with information about this incident may contact the investigation officer, Sergeant Arnold Ntabeni at 044 302 6652.
All information will dealt with confidentially.
