Bo­gus cops swind­le a pen­si­o­ner

The Knys­na po­li­ce would li­ke to warn the pu­blic a­bout bo­gus po­li­ce of­fi­cers who are o­pe­ra­ting in Knys­na af­ter a 63-y­e­ar-old victim was ap­pa­rent­ly swind­led out of her pen­si­on mo­ney by three men who clai­med to be mem­bers of the South A­fri­can Po­li­ce Ser­vi­ce on Sa­tur­day, Ju­ly 1 at 12:30.

It is al­le­ged that the victim was in the cen­tral bu­si­ness dis­trict ne­ar G­rey S­treet, Knys­na w­hen she wit­nes­sed a man picking up so­me cash.

The man re­que­sted the victim to ac­com­pa­ny her to a pla­ce w­he­re t­hey would share the mo­ney. A­not­her man ap­pea­red and in­tro­du­ced him­self as a po­li­ce of­fi­cer.

He in­for­med them that t­hey we­re un­der ar­rest and must hand o­ver her cash as well as gro­ce­ries to a­not­her man.

All the men then di­sap­pea­red with the mo­ney and gro­ce­ries.

A ca­se of theft was o­pe­ned and this mat­ter is cur­rent­ly being in­ves­ti­ga­ted by the Knys­na De­tecti­ve Branch. A­nyo­ne with in­for­ma­ti­on a­bout this in­ci­dent may con­tact the in­ves­ti­ga­ti­on of­fi­cer, Ser­ge­ant Ar­nold N­ta­be­ni at 044 302 6652.
