What real charity is all about
I have no words that can sufficiently express how grateful and proud we should be for having such a professional and caring organisation as Gift of the Givers come to our aid in the greatest hour of need in Knysna’s history.
“The Knysna Fire has been the most comprehensive disaster response in our 20-year history,” said its founder, medical practitioner Dr Imtiaz Sooliman.
I learned from the Cape Times of Friday, July 7 that Gift of the Givers has already expended R20-million on relief on the stricken town. With a further R5-million from Standard Bank and R3-million from Global Roofing Solutions, plans to rebuild RDP houses have already begun. Further aid in the form of food parcels, clothing, blankets, hygiene packs, and clothes, as well as necessary household items, have already been distributed, professionally and with care to over 12 000 recipients.
Perhaps Dr Sooliman is a Muslim. Does it matter? I am hoping that the small band of Knysna people so afraid of allowing a mosque in Knysna to allow peace-loving Muslims to worship and more importantly, to feel welcome in our town, may now find a change of heart when they see what real charity is all about.
