Help judge YouTube competition
The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS) needs to collect 700 units of blood daily to meet patients’ needs, but with less than 1.5% of the provincial population donating, it remains a constant challenge.
In recognising that the youth of our country holds the future of a safe and sustainable blood supply in their hands, WPBTS will be hosting its annual #Youthtube competition, aimed at 15 to 25-year-olds.
“The goal is to increase blood collections and provide a platform for young and aspiring filmmakers to showcase their talent. Ultimately, we want to save lives and inspire our youth to join in,” says promotions manager Irene van Schalkwyk. “Interested parties can visit www. wpblood.org.za (YouthTube tab) to download the competition brief.”
Although entries have already closed, during October the public can vote to determine winners, who will be announced in November.
There will be spot prizes for voters, sponsored by Galileo and Tracker.
You can donate if you are older than 16, weigh more than 50kg, you are in good health and lead a safe lifestyle – but remember to eat a substantial meal three to four hours before donating.
All blood groups are important, but there is a particular need for O and B blood types. –
