FJ45 LAND CRUISER

Leisure Wheels (South Africa) - - MAIL -

I have just read a copy of the June 2016 issue of Leisure Wheels and there is an article on the Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser that was of great interest to me.

I have a long wheelbase Toyota FJ45 that I am restoring and I am having difficulty in getting a positive identity on this vehicle. I have a copy of the vehicle’s original Zimbabwe registration book, which shows that the vehicle was imported into Zimbabwe from RSA in 1968. The details of the vehicle as given on the bulkhead plate agree with the engine and chassis numbers. The bulkhead plate details are as follows: Model: FJ45 Engine Model: F Number of cylinders: 6 Bore: 3.5 Stroke: 4.00 Piston Displacement: 23.7 Frame No (Chassis): FJ45 – 32206 Eng No: 246521 It has a petrol engine and the gearbox is a three-speed box. The front hubs are ball and claw and not CV joints.

I was hoping that your magazine might be able to put me in touch with a source of information regarding this vehicle. I would like to be able to confirm its year of manufacture, whether it is an Asian or European model, etc. (I have tried to get info from Toyota SA but without any luck). This information would greatly assist me in sourcing the correct spares that I still require in order to complete the rehab. Pete Kendall, Bulawayo We have sent this information on to Deon Venter, who is an FJ collector and who, we’re sure, will be able to assist. – Ed
