THE WILD SIDE OF THE DRAKENSBERG
The Eastern Cape Highlands, also known as ‘The wild side of the Drakensberg’ is growing in popularity as a safe and non-commercialised mountain destination with spectacular scenery. The tour members meet in Lady Grey, and head to Lundin’s Nek and Wartrail area. Then up the Volunteers Hoek Pass with lunch at the Tiffindell Ski Resort before zigzagging down the most extreme section of the Carlisle’shoek Pass to Rhodes, where the group will spend two nights with the enigmatic Dave Walker at Walkerbouts Inn. The tour then leads up Naude’s Neck, and the highest dirt road above sea level at 2 920m. The tour makes its way to the towns of Maclear and Elliot, and the Mountain Shadows Hotel at the top of Barkly Pass, for the final night.
