Suzuki Jimny 1.3

At the speed of... light?

Leisure Wheels (South Africa) - - TESTLONG-TERM -

THE past month the little Suzuki Jimny competed in another round of the Bridgestone 4×4 Club Challenge. This time it was a night event, run in southern Gauteng near the town of Villiers.

Based at the Lekoa Lodge, the event featured some tough navigational challenges, as well as 10 obstacles. Suzuki team Tumelo Maketekete and Antonie Coetzee quickly adjusted their tactics to the conditions: using the mega-powerful Lightforce LED bar, fitted to the Front Runner roof rack, proved less than ideal in the obstacles, as it blinded co-driver Coetzee to the point that he could not see a thing, and could not guide Maketekete over the rocks and through the dongas.

The light worked a charm for trying to find their way between the obstacles, though.

In the end, the crew banked a respectable 875 points. However, the winning shortwheelbase team, who also campaigned a Jimny, recorded the highest ever score on a Bridgestone event. Their 1080 points included full marks on all 10 obstacles (1000 points), plus 80 bonus points. Now that’s pretty impressive.
