Pampers and Pick n Pay partnered to raise R1 million to support Unicef’s First 1 000 Days initiative and increase awareness of the importance of proper nutrition for infant. South African parents, the partnership managed to raise R1 million to help turn the tide against the high infant mortality rate in SA, which currently stands at 31 infant deaths per 1 000 live births. “South African children continue to die from preventable causes, including pneumonia, HIV, TB and diarrhoea.All these are influenced by poor healthcare, infectious diseases, nutrition and hygiene during the first 1 000 days,” says Hervé Ludovic de Lys, a Unicef representative.
