Limpopo’s military export

Advocate Rendani Patience Marivate was born in Hamutsha village in Limpopo province in 1968. She completed her BA Law degree at the University of Venda in 1990 and her LLB in 1993 at the University of the North. A graduate of the Naval College in 1995, she then joined the legal office in the Simonstown naval base as a military law officer until 1999, after which she was appointed as military prosecutio­n counsel until 2002, from when until 2004, Marivate served as senior military review council. She obtained her LLM from Unisa in 2003 and in 2005 she was appointed a military judge and in 2006, senior military judge. Marivate served as director, Military Defence Counsel from 2011 to March 2017, responsibl­e for an affordable, fully integrated, credible, sustainabl­e, effective and efficient council service for members of the SANDF. Now the first deputy military ombud in South Africa, she is also married and a mother of three.
