BEAUTY ED’S LETTER
every year, when we judge beauty products for the Prix d’Excellence de la Beauté, we categorize them into three sections: Skin Care, Make-up and Local. This year, I was amazed by how many products scored really high when it came to innovation. This just demonstrates the technological advancements made in the beauty industry every year. It is also why I love this industry so dearly – new discoveries pop up literally every single day. One product impressed us so much that we felt it deserved an honorary award, as it is a brand new invention in beauty. Look out for it as you go through the winners – I’d hate to spoil the surprise. Thank you to all the brands that submitted products as entrants. It’s a monumental task, having to test and review every one, but we did it at the beautiful MannaBay Hotel in Oranjezicht – with breathtaking views of Table Mountain – on a scorching day in January, and decided on the winners. Thank you to our patient judges who took their time with each product in order to come to a fair conclusion: Aspasia Karras ( Marie Claire editor), Candice-Lee Kannemeyer (beauty blogger), Chereen Gibson ( O, The Oprah Magazine then beauty editor/beauty blogger), Asanda Sizani (creative consultant and stylist), Cathi Trevor ( Good Housekeeping beauty editor) and Juana Parathyras ( Cosmopolitan beauty editor).
This year, we also decided to involve you, the reader, to vote for some of your all-time favourite beauty products at Marieclaire.co.za. We were blown away by your response and have included the winners after tallying up the numbers according to your votes. Thank you so much for participating!
