The Lunchbox Fund helps feed local learners
This year, for the eighth instalment of the annual Marie Claire Naked issue,36 of South Africa’s prominent musicians, comedians, entertainers and chefs joined us in raising awareness and funds for The Lunchbox Fund, a local charity that aims to feed the millions of children who go to school without food to eat. For the majority of these children, the meal they receive at school, provided by the NGO, is their only one for the day. The scheme is aimed at encouraging school attendance and thus nurturing healthy bodies and minds. Marie Claire and official beauty partner for the Naked issue, Elizabeth Arden, along with some of the celebrity campaign participants, treated learners from HA Jack Primary School in Highlands North, Johannesburg to a fun day out at Peach Café on Camdeboo Farm near Fourways. The day was filled with hands-on activities including learning about farming, feeding the sheep and geese, planting seeds in pots to take home, making pizzas, face painting and balloon modelling. Each child received a goodie bag to take away. It was the perfect way for the celebrities who had already raised awareness for The Lunchbox Fund to spend some time with the children who benefit from their efforts – and it brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
