ROLE MODEL MA­TE­RIAL: The sci­ence stu­dent was the re­cip­i­ent of the Sci­en­tific Amer­i­can in­no­va­tion award at the Google Sci­ence Fair 2013 for mak­ing use of dis­carded banana peels in the pro­duc­tion of bio­plas­tic. – height­ened risk-tak­ing, poor im­pulse con­trol, self­con­scious­ness – shouldn’t be stig­ma­tised. It ac­tu­ally re­flects changes in the brain that pro­vide an ex­cel­lent op­por­tu­nity for ed­u­ca­tion and so­cial de­vel­op­ment.’ Young women have much to teach us, es­pe­cially teens who don’t ques­tion the va­lid­ity of their voices or what they be­lieve in be­cause of any pre­con­cep­tions of fail­ure.
