Marie Claire (South Africa) - - LETTER -

Watching Lupita Nyong’o winning an Academy Award was inspiring, to say the least. I jumped in delight when I read ‘50 Shades of Lupita’ in your April 2014 issue and saw her again as your May 2014 cover girl. I thought,‘Here is a woman like myself, who has hope dwelling in her soul.’ I have an eight-year-old son who is autistic and I have often felt helpless in my struggle to make things right for him. Raising a special-needs child can be challenging but the reward of seeing his smile is so worth it… and he is on his way to becoming someone great. As women we’re always striving for perfection – the perfect marriage, the perfect job, the perfect looks. But we are human after all and it’s okay to experience pain along the way. Like all the incredible women in your amazing magazine, I plan to make a difference – to the special children in our beautiful country. – Anisa Singh wins an Elizabeth
